Ethiopia: Kegna Beverages Nears Completion of Brewery Project

Kegna Beverages S.C., a local beverage company, has announced that the first phase of its brewery project in the West Shoa Zone of Oromia State is nearing completion. The company, initially established with a capital of Birr 1.5 billion, has since grown to an investment of Birr 5 billion.

Situated on 109.075 hectares of land, the brewery is part of Ethiopia’s Agriculture Development-Led Industrialization (ADLI) strategy. According to a press release from Kegna Beverages, the project aligns with the government’s framework for development and is expected to create substantial employment opportunities, driving economic growth across various sectors.

The company emphasized that thorough financial, economic, social, and environmental appraisals were conducted before the construction began, ensuring the project’s viability. Despite challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic, economic instability, and a shortage of foreign currency, Kegna Beverages has successfully completed the first phase of the project, overcoming significant hurdles.

Founded in 2017, Kegna Beverages remains entirely Ethiopian-owned and managed. The company aims to produce a wide range of beverages, from alcoholic to non-alcoholic drinks, positioning itself as a key player in Ethiopia’s growing beverage market.
